ACC Football Championship Tickets

While the ACC Football Championship Game has been in place for less than a decade, the event has been a popular destination for thousands of gridiron fans in the region. ACC Football Championship Game tickets are a winning entertainment choice.

ACC Football Championship Game Tickets: Historical Overview

In 2005, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) expanded to 12 teams after the recent additions of Miami-Florida, Virginia Tech and Boston College. For football, the league split into a pair of six-team divisions for the purpose of having a championship game. The Atlantic (Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, North Carolina State and Wake Forest) and Coastal (Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami-Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech) division winners advance to the conference title game each season.

The first six ACC Championship Games have been held in NFL stadiums that are in the region. Jacksonville hosted the initial three title games. In 2008-09, Tampa was the site of the contests. Last season, the game was played outside of Florida for the first time in Charlotte.

The winner of the game receives one of the six automatic bids to participate in a Bowl Championship Series (BCS) game. Unless the winning squad gains a spot in the BCS National Championship Game, the ACC champion plays in the Orange Bowl.

ACC Football Championship Game Tickets: Memorable Highlights

The Virginia Tech Hokies have been the dominant squad in the brief history of the ACC Championship Game. The Hokies have appeared in four of the six ACC title games. After being upset by Florida State in the first ACC Championship Game in 2005, Virginia Tech has rolled to league titles in 2007-08 and 2010.

In 2006, upstart Wake Forest won its first ACC crown since 1970 with a 9-6 victory over Georgia Tech. For two straight seasons, Virginia Tech and Boston College met in the title game.

In 2007, the Hokies stopped Matt Ryan and the Eagles by a count of 30-16. In the 2008 rematch, Boston College came up short again in a 30-12 defeat. The Yellow Jackets were able to gain some redemption in 2009 with a 39-34 win over the Clemson Tigers.
