Kenny Rogers was born and raised in Texas, and knew early in life that he wanted to sing for a living.  As a young man in the late fifties and early sixties, he was in several groups, such as The Scholars, The Bobby Doyle Trio, and The New Christy Minstrels.

He continued to pursue his musical career with The First Edition, which eventually became Kenny Rogers and The First Edition, and over ten years, they produced a string of pop hits on the country charts, with "Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town" and "Rueben James".

It was in 1976 that Kenny left The First Edition to pursue a solo career, and in the same year, he produced his debut solo album "Love Lifted Me".  By 1977, he produced his second album "Kenny Rogers" with the hit single "Lucille".  This single was a major hit, reaching number one on the pop charts in 12 countries, selling over five million copies, and firmly establishing Rogers's post-First Edition career.

Kenny Rogers then released "The Gambler" in 1978, which essentially launched him into super stardom!  This album was number one on the U.S. Country chart and one of many to do so for this multi talented singer.  Kenny would go on to produce over 25 albums over his 35 plus year solo career.
