The History of Leon Russell Tickets

Born in Lawton, OK, on April 2, 1942, as Claude Russell Bridges, Leon Russell began his music career at an early age, playing classical piano by the age of three.  A mere decade later, Leon Russell had already studied the trumpet and started his own band. By age 14, Leon Russell managed to sneak his way into a Tulsa nightclub by lying about his age and began touring in support of Jerry Lee Lewis.

A few years later, he relocated to Los Angeles and began studying guitar under James Burton. Russell became a member of Spector's renowned studio group and played on many of the most popular pop tunes of the 1960s. He was also arranging music at this time; some of his accomplishments included Ike and Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High" and the Byrd's "Mr. Tambourine Man."

By 1967, Leon Russell had built his own recording studio and began enjoying his mainstream notoriety. He was working with such notable artists as B.B. King, Eric Clapton and George Harrison, and he even toured with the Rolling Stones.

After enjoying several years of success and earning a number of Grammy Awards for his work, he spent much of the 1980s out of the music business and did not reemerge until his 1992 collaboration with Bruce Hornsby.  He has since produced and released a number of cover song and country albums.
