M.I.A. Tickets

Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam, more commonly referred to her stage name, M.I.A., which means "Missing in Action," is a Sri Lankan artist and singer who has made an indelible mark on the world of music for her eclectic work.

The History of M.I.A. Tickets

Born in 1977 in London, England, M.I.A. grew up primarily in Sri Lanka, where her family was among the Tamil minority. Her mother brought her back to England due to political upheaval and unrest. The family moved back to London in 1986, where she began studying film and began a career as a documentary maker.

As she learned English, she became enamored with the rap and hip-hop culture, and as a result, moved to Los Angeles and to the South Central area.

She soon developed a love of the drums and of writing of music, and she began to distribute tapes and singles on her own. Her music combined the two unique sounds of hip-hop and reggae, and her lyrics were undoubtedly politically based. She began a successful run as a favorite among the dancehalls during 2003 and 2004.

Her first album release, Arular, was released on an international level in 2005 and performed live on the Grammy's four years later, and she left her mark, not only for her performance, but because she was nine months pregnant at the time!

She released Kala, her second album, in 2007, but had problems reentering the country when immigration officials denied her work visa. She kept moving around the world and visited India, Jamaica, Australia and Trinidad during this time. She then embarked on global headlining tours, and she established her own record label in 2008. She was listed in Esquire magazine in 2009 as one of the most 75 influential people of the 21st century.

M.I.A. Tickets: What to Expect

Rolling Stone magazine, in their review of her first album, compared her music to "the sound of jump-rope rhymes in a war zone" and called her album "weird, playful, unclassifiable, sexy, and brilliantly addictive."

M.I.A.'s music is said to combine the sounds of hip-hop, rap, electronica, dance, alterative and world music.

M.I.A. Tickets: Who should Attend?

From club favorites and hip-hop tunes to raps about politics and the world, M.I.A. is an eclectic mixture of rhythm, soul and funk. Her sound is drawn from her world traveling and the impact the hip-hop and rap world had on her upon returning to the U.S. M.I.A. tickets are decidedly all about dance and funk, and M.I.A. tickets are available to the delight of fans, as she has several tour dates set for 2011.
