Born in Columbus, Ohio, Michael Feinstein showed a talented interest in the piano at an early age.  After graduating high school, he would play the piano in the local bar scene for two years before moving to Los Angeles in 1976, where he miraculously was introduced to Ira Gershwin!

He would be hired by Gershwin to catalogue his extensive collection of phonograph records, as well of the works of Ira's brother George, which gave Michael an incredible inside look and feel of the music he loved to perform.  This turned out to be a six year project, and in 1986, Michael would record his first album "Live at the Algonquin" and would follow that up in 1987 with his first studio album "Pure Gershwin."

His fourth album, 1988's "Isn't It Romantic," marked the first time he was backed up by an orchestra!   By the end of 1988, he had signed with Elektra Records and would record a series of albums through the next decade spotlighting the work of specific composers including Burton Lang, Jules Styne, and Hugh Martin.
