San Francisco 49ers Tickets: Franchise Overview

After beginning in the All-America Football Conference from 1946-49, the San Francisco 49ers joined the NFL in 1950. Over its first 20 years in the NFL, the 49ers made just one postseason appearance. From 1970-72, San Francisco made three consecutive playoff trips.

In 1979, a coaching hire would revolutionize the franchise. The arrival of Bill Walsh enabled the 49ers to become the most successful NFL team during the eighties. From 1981-2002, San Francisco missed the playoffs just four times under Walsh and two other head coaches.

Lately, the 49ers have struggled, and San Francisco's last winning season was in 2002.

Quarterback Y.A. Tittle, running back Joe Perry, running back Hugh McElhenny, defensive back Jimmy Johnson, quarterback Joe Montana, defensive back Ronnie Lott and wide receiver Jerry Rice are just some of the Hall of Famers that have performed for the San Francisco 49ers.

Only the Pittsburgh Steelers have won more Super Bowls than the San Francisco 49ers. San Francisco is a perfect 5-0 in Super Bowls.

In 1981, Montana guided the upstart 49ers to its first NFL title. Three years later, San Francisco finished off an 18-1 year with a victory over the Miami Dolphins in the Super Bowl. The 49ers closed out the decade with consecutive Super Bowl wins in 1988-89. Behind quarterback Steve Young, the 49ers captured another Super Bowl in 1994.

Home Stadium

Since 1971, the San Francisco 49ers home stadium has been Candlestick Park (capacity of 69,732). Over the last four decades, some of the most exciting and important games in the history of the league have been contested at the stadium. San Francisco 49ers tickets will continue to provide some more thrills in the years to come.
