This exceptional indie band was formed in Portland, Oregon when Colin Meloy met Nate Query and Jenny Conlee.  They would discover their mutual passion for unique music and storytelling and they chose the name "The Decemberist" referring to the Decemberist Revolt, an 1825 revolt in Imperial Russia. 

The band incorporates unique instruments into their indie rock sound, such as the accordion, Hammond organ, Wurlitzer organ, and upright bass.  In 2001, they would produce their own demo EP titled "Five Songs" which they distributed while on tour.  By the following year, they would have a recording contract with Hush Records, and in May of 2001 they released their first studio record titled "Castaways and Cutouts."  

The band would release two more albums before signing with Capitol Records in 2006.  Their first major label studio album would be released in October of 2006 titled "The Crane Wife."  They have since released two more studio albums and continue to be one of the most unique acts around - making The Decemberists tickets a popular commodity!
