West Side Story is set in the back drop of New York city in 1950's. This musical portrays arch rivalry between two street gangs that come from different ethnic backgrounds just like Romeo and Juliet. The first Broadway production-that was directed and choreographed by Jerome Robins- was screened in 1957. This 1957 production won a Tony Award for best choreography. The story contains of two acts. In the first act, we see two teenage gangs and petty fights in the midst of police taunts.
