The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks have been a division-one football program for less than two decades. After beginning as an independent in 1994, the Warhawks joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2001.

Louisiana-Monroe has faced an uphill climb on the football field at a higher level of competition. In 17 years, the Warhawks have yet to post a winning season. The club has gone 6-6 on two occasions (2007 and 2009).

The 2007 squad may have laid the foundation for what is eventually to come for the program. In that season, Louisiana-Monroe pulled off one of the biggest upsets in college football during the last decade, with a 21-14 victory at Alabama.

In basketball, the Warhawks have been more competitive at the division-one level (which began in 1973-74 season). The school has won 55% of its games while making seven appearances in the NCAA tournament. The hoops program is still seeking its initial victory in March Madness.

Championship Seasons

The Louisiana-Warhawks have captured 18 conference championships in basketball (10-regular season, 8-tournament). After winning four league titles in the Atlantic Sun Conference from 1978-79 to 1981-82, the Warhawks joined the Southland Conference. In the nineties, Louisiana-Monroe was the top team in the Southland with a total of 11 conference championships (6-regular season, 5-tournament).

In the Sun Belt, the school's lone title was a regular season championship in the 2006-07 season.
