Oakland Athletics Tickets: The Hat Trick

The Athletics franchise is considered one of the American League's eight charter teams and originated in Philadelphia.  After moving to Kansas City in 1955 and playing mediocre baseball for twelve seasons, the team then moved to Oakland in 1967 and began to instill the winning tradition they experienced in the early days in Philadelphia.

In 1971, just their fourth year in Oakland, the As would win 101 games to clinch the American League West crown.  This would mark the beginning of what many consider a dynasty.  The As would go on to make the playoffs for the next four years in a row.

With future Hall of Famers and current all-stars such as Vida Blue, Reggie Jackson, Jim "Catfish" Hunter, Sal Bando, Bert Campaneris, Joe Rudi, and Rollie Fingers, the Athletics would win the World Series in 1972, 1973, and 1974!

Bash Brothers

The Athletics would again assemble a team for the decades, as they would begin a string of playoff runs in the late 80s.  Two players in particular would become the face of the franchise and create one of the most feared duos in history.  Known as the Bash Brothers, Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire would combine for over 200 homeruns from 1988 to 1990.  Routinely, they would not just hit homeruns, but they would launch missiles that would clear the fence seemingly by miles!

Add to the mix players like Ricky Henderson, Dave Parker, Carney Lansford, Dennis Eckersley, Dave Stewart, Walt Weiss and managed by Tony La Russa, the As would make the post season four out of five seasons starting in 1988.  They would win the American League Pennant three consecutive years and would win the World Series in 1989.

Come See the Banners!

This season, the As will be strong at the corners with 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff and 1B Daric Barton, who each had outstanding seasons last year.  Trevor Cahill and Dallas Braden should anchor the rotation, as they combined for 29 wins last year.

Always solid behind the plate will be Kurt Suzuki and providing veteran leadership, and offensive punch will be former World Series MVP Hideki Matsui.
