Rose Bowl Tickets

As college football's oldest and most prestigious postseason game, the Rose Bowl is a New Year's Day sports tradition. Rose Bowl tickets enable fans to enjoy a college gridiron classic.

Rose Bowl Tickets: Historical Overview

The first Rose Bowl game was played on January 1, 1902 in Pasadena, California. Because the initial contest (Michigan defeated Stanford 49-0) was so lopsided, it would take 14 years for the Rose Bowl to return.

Since 1916, the game has been going strong. Even World War II could not disrupt the Rose Bowl! The 1942 contest was played on the campus of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina less than a month after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

From the beginning, the champion of the Pacific Conference (Pac-12) has usually been one of the participants in the game. Since 1947, the Pacific champion has squared off against the best team from the Big 10 Conference.

Currently, the Rose Bowl is part of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). Every four years, Pasadena will host the BCS title game, in addition to the regular Rose Bowl matchup. Unless a Big 10 and/or Pac-12 champion is in the BCS National Championship Game, the Rose Bowl will attempt to feature a traditional game between the top two teams from each conference.

Since 1923, the game has been played at the historical Rose Bowl (capacity of 92,542) stadium.

Rose Bowl Tickets: Memorable Highlights

The game known as "The Granddaddy of Them All" has enjoyed its share of memorable highlights over the years. The nearby Southern California Trojans have enjoyed the short trip to Pasadena more often than not. USC has made the most Rose Bowl appearances (33) while recording the most victories (24) of any team in the history of the game.

In terms of victories, the Michigan Wolverines are a distant second with eight Rose Bowl triumphs.

Under legendary head coach John McKay, USC won five Rose Bowls from 1963-75. Four of the victories secured national championships for the Trojans.

Many consider the 1975 Rose Bowl to be the most exciting contest in the history of the event. For the third straight season, USC and Ohio State were facing off in the Rose Bowl. Down 17-10 late in the game, the Trojans scored a touchdown and two-point conversion to come away with a thrilling 18-17 victory.
