Georgia Braves Tickets: Unprecedented History

The Braves franchise began in the late 1800s in Boston, and in 1953, moved to Milwaukee.  The team then moved to Atlanta in 1966.  The Braves would win the National League West in 1968 and again in 1982; however, these two accomplishments would pale in comparison to what would transpire throughout the 90s and beyond.

With a core group of young pitchers in John Smoltz, Steve Avery, Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine, and a young third baseman named Chipper Jones, the Braves would learn how to win.  In 1991, the Braves would begin an unprecedented streak in which they won 14 consecutive division titles!  They would also bring home the National League Pennant five times during this period.

Going the Distance

In 1995, the Braves assembled a team for the ages!  With great players such as Javy Lopez, Chipper Jones, Fred McGriff, David Justice, Ryan Klesko, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz and Greg Maddux, and led by manager Bobby Cox, the Braves would finish the season with 90 wins and would face the Rockies in the first round of the playoffs.

After beating the Rockies in four games and then sweeping the Reds, the Braves would face the Cleveland Indians in the World Series.  In six games, the Braves would prevail to capture the World Series for the first time since 1957!

This Season's Brave Souls

The Braves look for catcher Brian McCann to build on his team leading 21 HRs and 77 RBIs from a year ago.  Also adding support this year will be right fielder Jason Heyward, who had a solid 72 RBIs last season, and Martin Prado, who will take left field to make room for new second baseman Dan Uggla.

As usual, future Hall of Famer and Braves' cornerstone Chipper Jones will provide veteran leadership with his steady bat and strong work ethic.  On the mound, the Braves look to Tim Hudson to pick up where he left off.  Also anchoring the rotation this season will be 16 game winner Derek Lowe.
