Baltimore Orioles Tickets: History of the Fire Birds

The Baltimore Orioles, named after Maryland's state bird, began playing in 1954 when they moved from St. Louis, where they were known as the Browns.  In 1966, they would win their first World Series in franchise history, and this would set the stage for a long run of playoff appearances.

Managed by the fiery Earl Weaver, the Orioles would make it to the World Series three consecutive times starting in 1969, and under Weaver's tenure, would make the playoffs six times, while capturing the World Series crown in 1970.  The championship team boasted future Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson, Jim Palmer, Frank Robinson, and Boog Powell!

The Streak!

A relatively little known player by the name of Cal Ripken Jr. would take the field on May 30th, 1982 and would proceed to hit 28 homeruns for the season and earn the American League's Rookie of the Year award.  He would NOT miss a game for the next 17 years!  This feat would break Lou Gehrig's 56 year old record for consecutive games played and surpass it by 502 games.

In his second year, Ripken Jr. would win the American League's MVP Award, while leading his team to the 1983 World Series against the Phillies.  The Orioles would beat the Phillies in five games to capture the franchise's third World Series crown!

This Season's Cheery O's

The Orioles will look to right fielder Nick Markakis to continue his leadership.  Entering his fifth season with the O's, he is a career .300 hitter providing very consistent offense.  Newly acquired third baseman Mark Reynolds should add some pop to the lineup, as he has belted 76 dingers over the last two seasons while with Arizona.

Veteran Derrek Lee will get the nod at first base, and if he remains healthy, could produce solid numbers this season.  Designated hitter Luke Scott had a career high 27 HRs last season and will add some punch to the line up!

Baltimore Orioles Tickets at Camden Yards

The Orioles play at the highly praised Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which is considered to be the first of the "Retro" ball parks that offer a very traditional feel and an asymmetrical layout.  With your Baltimore Orioles tickets, you can partake in a beautiful version of America's favorite pastime.
