In the late fifties, the Cincinnati Bearcats became a national power in basketball. The arrival of Oscar Robertson made Cincinnati a feared club. Robertson became one of the greatest players in the history of college basone of thketball by averaging 34 points per game during his career with the Bearcats. He sparked Cincinnati to e most noted team accomplishments in the annuals of college hoops. From 1958-59 to 1962-63, the Bearcats appeared in five consecutive Final Fours.

In the last two decades, the program experienced a resurgence under head coach Bob Huggins (1989-90 to 2004-05). In his final 14 seasons at Cincinnati, he never failed to make the NCAA tournament. His 1991-92 squad reached the Final Four.

On the football side, it has been more of a struggle. Since becoming a division-one program in 1954, the Bearcats have appeared in nine bowl games. In 2008-09, head coach Brian Kelly was able to guide Cincinnati to consecutive Big East titles.

Championship Seasons

After losing in the national semi-finals in the prior two years with Robertson, Cincinnati broke through without its superstar to win the NCAA title in 1960-61 under first-year head coach Ed Jucker. In the next season, the Bearcats were able to repeat as national champions.
