Born and raised in North Carolina, Clay Aiken started singing at an early age and was part of a choir group known as Raleigh Boys Choir before he was even a teenager.  By high school, he was involved in his church choir, school musicals, and local theater productions.  The talent was obvious, and he became the lead in a local band known as "Just By Chance" after high school.

He decided to enroll at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte to pursue degree in special education.  During this time, he took a part time job as an assistant to an autistic boy, and it was actually the boy's mother who urged him to try out for American Idol! 

As history would play out, Clay was runner up in the national competition, but within a few weeks of the show's conclusion, he would sign with RCA and would record his debut single, "This Is the Night," which made history by going number one on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.  By October of 2003, Clay Aiken would release his first album, "Measure of a Man" which went to number one in its first week on the Billboard Top 200! 

The little man continues to make an enormous splash with his amazing talent.  He has released four more albums over the past seven years and has also performed on television and Broadway.  In addition, he has sung the national anthem for baseball's World Series and the NHL's All Star Game!
