The Houston Dynamo was created in 2006 as an expansion franchise in Major League Soccer (MLS).  However, the Dynamo was a unique expansion squad. The Dynamo began with the roster from the San Jose Earthquakes team that was put on hiatus following the 2005 season. This enabled Houston to get off to a solid start in the league with four consecutive postseason appearances.

Currently, the squad competes at Robertson Stadium (capacity of 32,000) on the campus of the University of Houston. The community has warmly greeted the arrival of the Dynamo, and the franchise has averaged more than 17,000 fans per game at home in its brief history.
