'War Horse' is an epic Broadway adventure suitable for audiences of all ages. It is set against the backdrop of rural Europe and Brittan during World War One and it begins with the extraordinary friendship between a young boy named Albert and a horse named Joey. Albert trains and tames Joey, and develops a strong bond with him in the process.
When the two are parted forcefully, the show follows the incredible journey that Joey embarks on as he moves throughout the war torn countryside, inspiring people and changing the lives of those he encounters, from German soldiers and British cavalry to a French farmer and his grandchild. Eventually the story reaches its moving climax when Joey serves both sides of the war in the so called 'no man's land'. There he witnessed the brutal and indiscriminate machinations of war firsthand.
An Epic Story of Unconventional Friendship
'War Horse' is based on a popular novel for young adults, written by Michael Morpurgo, that has now been adapted by Nick Stafford into a Tony winning theatrical performance on Broadway where it has had wide appeal. While the novel was narrated by the horse Joey in first person, the stage show has Joey express himself only through movements – thus becoming a cipher for the humans that he encounters, including a German officer looking for escape and a young girl caring for him after he is wounded. The show has received buzz due to its fantastic use of puppetry – it utilizes numerous puppets from the Handspring Puppet Company, of London England, to create a visionary feat like no other.
An Award Winning Broadway Show
'War Horse is a superb drama filled with fantastic music and stirring songs. Beyond that, it is a captivating tale of tremendous grandeur and inventiveness – possibly one of the most endearing and magical productions ever created for the stage.
