Louisville Cardinals Tickets: Historical Overview

The Louisville Cardinals have been a model of consistency on the hardwood. In the last 68 seasons, only one Louisville squad (1990-91) has suffered through a losing campaign.

Since the early seventies, the Cardinals have been an elite program. Longtime head coach Denny Crum (1971-72 to 2000-01) reached the NCAA tournament in 23 of his 30 years on the sidelines at the school. On six occasions, Crum took Louisville to the Final Four.

Overall, the Cardinals have appeared in 37 NCAA tournaments and 8 Final Fours.  The university's most recent trip to the national semi-finals was under current head coach Rick Pitino in the 2004-05 season.

In football, Louisville has been a division-one program since 1962. While being overshadowed by the success of the basketball program, the football Cardinals have managed to appear in 14 bowl games over the years. From 1998-2006, Louisville put together a run of nine consecutive postseason bids.

Championship Seasons

The Louisville Cardinals have won two NCAA championships in basketball. In 1979-80, Louisville defeated the UCLA Bruins to claim its first title. Six years later, Crum led the Cardinals to another championship contest. Against the Duke Blue Devils, Louisville came out on top again to capture another NCAA title.
