In 1963, the Longhorns recorded a perfect 11-0 campaign to win the first national championship for the school. Six years later, the Longhorns were on top of the college football world again after another 11-0 mark. In one of the most famous games in the history of college football, top-ranked Texas edged past #2 Arkansas late in the regular season to solidify its status as the best team in the nation. Texas was able to register a repeat as the national champion in the following year as well.
In 2005, current head coach Mack Brown led Texas to another championship. In that year's BCS title game, star quarterback Vince Young led a dramatic rally late in the game to defeat USC.
On the hardwood, the Longhorns have won 27 conference championships (25-regular season, 2-tournament).
